Painting 101

If you find that you are interested in painting a new room in your house, here are some tips mistakes  that I've learned during painting these last couple weeks...

Photobucket

It's not easy, and nearly impossible to paint with a 3 year old

You should always buy paint samples because the colors on the wall look nothing like the paint chips

After 7 samples, you might find that perfect color for your wall

Remember to ask for a paint stir, because apparently they don't just give them to you when you buy paint and supplies

Painting is not as fun as you would think, it's actually time consuming, messy, and practically a workout...be prepared

FrogTape is the best painting tape ever! It has a paintblock technology...that..well gives you sharper lines and that is the extent of my understanding

If you forget to buy extra tray liners, you can accommodate by using  foil paper to line the tray, although you will find it does not work very well

Textured and rough surfaces require more paint, buy accordingly

Shur-line edger works way faster on trim than using an angled brush by hand, I may know from first hand experience...no pun intended

Always use a drop cloth, even if you are just painting a little sample! Unless, of course, you like paint on your new hardwood floors...just saying

If you aren't finished painting with a roller, wrap that roller in plastic wrap put it in a bag and keep it in your fridge or freezer. It will keep your roller fresh and ready to use the next day!

Lastly, I've learned that it feels amazing to look at your newly painted room all complete and it does make all the hard work worth it! Especially when you begin to realize your home is starting to come together exactly how you pictured it :)

Hope these tips could help you...or at the very least, give you a little chuckle ;)

I HATE painting! My mother in law painted our entire house when we moved in. I'm terrible at it too, I get paint every where! But yes, the finished product is amazing! Can't wait to see pictures :)

Uhg, girl... I HEAR YA! I HATE HATE HATE painting. When we moved into our house, I wanted a few things... ok, a lot of things painted. I recruited my dad, mom, and mother-in-law after I quickly realized that I offically am the world's WORST painter. In fact, I only let myself paint inside the closets (so no one will ever see how horrible of a job I did!) Good luck with the rest of your painting dear!

LOL, loved reading about your painting tips and experience. My husband worked in the construction of houses for 15years and is an excellent painter...(I'm lucky). I got to paint with him once and it was quite an experience...I want to paint one room (once we own our house) the way you see in movies and have a big old paint fight and leave the walls splattered!! LOL
I remember one room I had growing up my mom painted 1/2 of it in cream and the bottom 1/2 since I wanted tye-dye she sponged a bunch of colors and it was really cool.

Congrats on your new house and your new walls :)
