Weekly Snippets

Last week was a pretty low key week for us. A lot of our time was spent indoors as the builder's crew were laying the cement for our driveway and sidewalk. Boy, will it be so much nicer to have a driveway, and not to mention the less amount of dirt that we'll be tracking into the house. E and I spent the majority of our week exercising, playing tractors, taking walks, snuggling while reading stories and watching cartoons. Sometimes we are just needing those low key days to rejuvenate our bodies. I can always tell when E's starting to get overwhelm with a busy schedule, so I'm always trying to balance our weeks out so that we are making sure we are taking time off to spend some quality time together - which is just what we were needing!

Here are the snippets of our week as brought to you by instagram

My Me Time: Fitness

Let me take you back, back to those high school years. Oh, you are embarrassed of those years too? Well wait until you hear this...You know what I dreaded most about school? Gym. Yes, you read that right, gym class.
For most of you gym was an easy A. It was the break away from all those mentally stimulating and challenging or not classes. For me, it was complete embarrassment and humiliation. I was the furthest thing from athletic and didn't have a coordinating bone in my body. You may be thinking, how is that possible? But it was! Let me tell ya, I could barely make the mile jogging/walking in time to pass, which I believe was 12-15 minutes. I couldn't catch a ball to save my life, let alone hit one with a bat, which didn't matter because there was no way I could make it to first base before the catcher did. I even recall an instance where we had to run across the gym picking up erasers and running back, which resulted in two bruised knees and ego. Please don't make me go any further into this embarrassment, just take my word for it, fitness was not my friend.

Given all this information, lets now fast forward six years, you would probably be surprise to hear me call myself a runner. Truth be told, I've been running since 2010. It all started when I was on a quest to lose that pesky baby weight. It was actually a fellow Marine wife that got me into running. We quickly became running buddies, and that is when I fell in love with running.

For me, running is like therapy. It relieves my stress and clears my mind. Running is also challenging and I love that it makes me push my limits, makes me give it my all, and makes me sweat it out.

If I'm not running, I just don't feel like myself. This is what I've been struggling with the last few months. Since our move from Colorado to Wisconsin, running has been on a downward slope until it eventually hit a plateau. With the long winter months (short winter days) and moving several times within WI, I lost motivation. I let life situations take over, and I slowly let go of running.

This is even hard for me to admit. I feel ashamed to go from running five times a week to maybe a run every two week or no runs at all for months, and it makes me feel horrible! Not just because I've gained 10 pounds, but because I wasn't taking care of myself. I was running less and eating more crap! I was giving up on fitness goals and getting back into an unhealthy rut. Sadly, I let this go on since October.

So here's my post to reclaim myself.
To feeling like myself again.
To getting back into taking a little time out of my day to run.
To giving up on those unhealthy habits.
And maybe, even losing those extra 10 pounds ;)

If you are finding yourself in a similar unhealthy rut, I challenge you to take a little time out of the day to do something for yourself. Go on a walk, stretch your body out, maybe even go on a short jog. Just get your body moving!
Don't let life situations take over you!

Let's get each other motivated! That's the importance of the My Me Time Series!

Painting 101

If you find that you are interested in painting a new room in your house, here are some tips mistakes  that I've learned during painting these last couple weeks...

Photobucket

It's not easy, and nearly impossible to paint with a 3 year old

You should always buy paint samples because the colors on the wall look nothing like the paint chips

PhotobucketPhotobucket

After 7 samples, you might find that perfect color for your wall

Photobucket

Remember to ask for a paint stir, because apparently they don't just give them to you when you buy paint and supplies

Painting is not as fun as you would think, it's actually time consuming, messy, and practically a workout...be prepared

FrogTape is the best painting tape ever! It has a paintblock technology...that..well gives you sharper lines and that is the extent of my understanding

If you forget to buy extra tray liners, you can accommodate by using  foil paper to line the tray, although you will find it does not work very well

Photobucket

Textured and rough surfaces require more paint, buy accordingly

Shur-line edger works way faster on trim than using an angled brush by hand, I may know from first hand experience...no pun intended

Always use a drop cloth, even if you are just painting a little sample! Unless, of course, you like paint on your new hardwood floors...just saying

If you aren't finished painting with a roller, wrap that roller in plastic wrap put it in a bag and keep it in your fridge or freezer. It will keep your roller fresh and ready to use the next day!

Photobucket

Lastly, I've learned that it feels amazing to look at your newly painted room all complete and it does make all the hard work worth it! Especially when you begin to realize your home is starting to come together exactly how you pictured it :)

Hope these tips could help you...or at the very least, give you a little chuckle ;)

What I Wore

I want to thank you all for your fashionable advice last week, on ways to wear a chambray. I found a better fitted chambray last week and I can't wait to style it with your suggestions including, black skinny jeans, high waist skirt, and colored denim.

Speaking of colored denim, I bought these red pants while at CE in March and this is only the 2nd time I've worn them. I'm becoming braver with the color ;)

Photobucket Sweater: Old Navy. Tank: Aeropostale. Jeans: California Girl (store in AZ). Flats: Kohl's. Flower Clip: Much Love, Illy

Outfit inspired by Sandy a la Mode and In Honor of Design. These ladies have real style and inspire me each week! :)

Weekly Snippets

Whoa to the new blogger! It's been a few days since I've posted and been on blogger so it was surprise this morning to wake up to this change!!
How is everyone liking it?
So sorry I've been MIA and sorry for the no My Me Time post this week, if you noticed...If you didn't notice then scratch that ;) You can expect a My Me Time post from yours truly this Friday. Stay tuned!

Anyways, if you aren't following me on instagram @lisa_mommasmetime or twitter @mommasmetime, here are our snippets this week:

Photobucket
This week the hubby graduated from his law enforcement academy! He is officially a certified officer :) We couldn't be more proud of him! I have such a high respect for his transition from Marine to deputy. He has proven, if he sets his mind to it, he can accomplish anything!
Congrats again hunny bunny, or as E likes to call him Officer Daddy ;)
Photobucket

1. Cloudy & rainy days call for a little bit of yellow to brighten my day
2. After watching this little guy nap so comfortably, I just had to join him ;)
3. Sampling some paint. I've picked 3 lovely colors and can't wait to turn those white walls colorful!
4. Getting some work complete on the outside of our home too. If you read last weeks home, sweet home post, you probably noticed the mounds of dirt around our property. This little guy was here to fix that and E loved watching him!

Photobucket

1. Everyone deserves a little cookie now and then...in my case, three of them..
2. It's not often that I don't wear eye liner, makes me feel naked. So here is a first and probably last..
3. Family photo at E's 1st soccer game!
4. Ready for some summer BBQ's

Photobucket

1. Momma's soccer star! He did kick the ball once during the game and then spent the rest of the time lollygagging around the field lol
2. Taking a break from painting to enjoy a salad and diet Dr Pepper. Is that wrong? Soda and salad...maybe the salad canceled out the soda? or maybe not...either way it was delicious!
3. Outfit for the graduation, felt a little boyish, but fun!

Okay, I managed a post with the new blogger, but that took some work. I think it might take a while to get use to this new layout....

What I Wore

Photobucket
Chambray: Old Navy. Tank & flats: Maurices. Jeans: American Eagle.

Since I've started What I Wore Wednesday post, I've been gathering fashion inspiration from other great bloggers. Taking a look at my wardrobe, I've noticed I am missing a lot of key pieces which includes variety!

Jeans, shirts and sweaters is what you would see if you took a peek into my closet.
No jackets, not blazers, no skirts, and few dresses. So I've been working to find more of these key pieces to add.

One of the things many bloggers have pinned as a "must have" is the chambray button-up. I love the chambray look on others. When I put this outfit together, I thought it looked good, until I looked back at the photos in my viewfinder and noticed how baggy and bulky it was. Before I left the house I grabbed a skinny belt and tied it around my waist in hopes of adding shape. I didn't get a photo, but I'm still finding it hard to style this chambray. It's too short to tuck in and it's too big to put sweaters on top of.

So my question to you is, how do you style your chambray?

Home, Sweet Home

Photobucket

When we first started looking at homes, our realtor told us that most people know it's the right home within the first five minutes of looking at it. He was right. We knew it when we walked in the door that this was the home we wanted to call our own.

Photobucket

It's funny how this happens. I didn't expect to ever have that feeling, especially because when we saw our home for the first time it was in the midst of being build. The walls had just been dry-walled and it was so far from looking like a home! We felt something special when walked into this home though, it was different than the rest. There was something about the layout, the location, and the land, that we fell in love with. It's hard to explain, but I'm sure each person who owns a home knows the feeling.

Photobucket

Our realtor also told us that many people end up buying the complete opposite of what they go in expecting to buy, which was also true for us. I never thought all the things we loved about our home, would also be the complete opposite of what we wanted.

Photobucket

I never thought we would be living in the town my husband grew up in, and he would have to commute to work.
I never thought we would buy a two story home, and we would have to go up and down the steps a million times a day.
I never thought we would live at the end of a cul de sac in a subdivision, and not in the middle of a city or out in the country.

Photobucket

Sometimes the best things in life are the unexpected ones. Ones where you listen to your heart and let God lead you.
He knows exactly what you need.
